HOMEWORK - We provide children with an afternoon snack and some planned
physical activity before they begin homework. This schedule provides children
with an opportunity to expend some extra energy before having to settle down
and work. We have found (and research shows) that children are better able to
focus on their homework if they have engaged in some type of physical activity
first.

The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that school age
children have 60 minutes or more of daily physical activity. We are trying to meet
our portion of that daily recommendation by offering at least 20 minutes of
planned active play right after school. For more information on these standards,
please see the following link:

NC Recommended Standards for After-School Physical Activity

Children who do not have homework will be asked to read quietly or find a quiet
activity during homework time. Our teachers offer homework assistance and
encouragement. Please understand that licensing and accreditation standards do
not allow us to force children to do homework, nor are we allowed to insist that
children complete all their homework assignments before they can engage in
other activities.
